Good Night and Good Luck

This is a very difficult thing for me to say. But, after much thought, I've decided that this will be my last post at Falcon's Crest. My schedule and workload outside the blogosphere has significantly increased to a level where it's become incredibly difficult to continue. Since I wouldn't be able to give 100% on a consistent basis, it's best for me to let this endeavor go, out of fairness to you.

Don't worry, though. I haven't given up blogging all together. You can still find me with the great team at Hang Right Politics as a regular contributor. In addition, I'll leave this site up for one week before it disappears from the scene. This will give those bloggers, who've so kindly added me to their blogroll, time to make the necessary changes.

I've so enjoyed all the time we've shared on this blog. I've shared things that have been on my heart and mind. You've shared your thoughts and I'm grateful for every comment, every reader, every passer-by. It's been a true joy and honor serving you.

For those about to blog...I salute you. And to all my wonderful readers, good night and good luck.

There Are None So Blind as Those Who Will Not See

I wrote a post yesterday about a new left-leaning blog I’d come across called African-American Political Pundit. Here is yesterday's post.

Today, I read another post at AAPP referencing the Moderate Voice's, Anti-Semitism From the Left?, in which a fellow liberal says:

This concerns me as a Democrat, and as an observer that antisemitism today comes mostly from the left (Pat Buchanan excepted). Excerpted from elsewhere:When the House voted 410-8 in favor of a resolution “condemning the recent attacks against the State of Israel, holding terrorists and their state-sponsors accountable for such attacks, [and] supporting Israel’s right to defend itself.” Here’s a list of the 12 congressional reps. who declined to support Israel.

AAPP spend the rest of the post discounting the assertion that this is anti-semitism. Inrock, the writer, even says, “Could it be that some people just don’t approve of innocent people being killed?” Riiight. That’s why the members of the Congressional Black Caucus (and white liberal Democrats) either voted AGAINST supporting Israel or voted PRESENT. It was all those innocents that would be killed. None of them could possibly have a history of not supporting Israel. No! It couldn’t be that.

Remember, it’s see no evil, speak no evil, hear no evil.

It's Okay to Leave the Plantation

Bush and the NAACP

President Bush finally went to the NAA[L]CP - National Association for the Advancement of Liberal Colored People and gave a pretty good speech. Bush said he viewed his speech as a chance to explain his convictions about equality. "I come from a family committed to civil rights," he said. "My faith tells me that we are all children of God - equally loved, equally cherished, equally entitled to the rights he grants us all."

The speech was only briefly interrupted, near the end, by a few stupid protesters who were escorted out. Overall, the president appeared to receive positive marks despite being in the lion's den.

So why did Bush go in the first place after having turned them down for 5 years? Well, [h]e accepted this year after new NAACP President Bruce Gordon, the first businessman to lead the nation's oldest civil rights organization, reached out to improve the relationship. Nice to see someone from thatorganizationn actually reach out to the president in a meaningful way.

CNN - the Crescent News Network

In a post from a couple of days ago, Oak Leaf mentioned that radio talk show host Michael Savage has taken to calling CNN the Crescent News Network. After the story I heard this morning on the Laura Ingraham Show, Rush Limbaugh, and Hugh Hewit (who is fit to be tied), where CNN’s Nick Robertson got an “exclusive tour” by a Hezbollah “spokeman” of bombed out buildings, the name DEFINITELY fits.

This link allows you to listen to the propanganda…er, uh…interview that Robertson did. You won’t believe that even CNN has sunk this low.

Why I Love Hang Right Politics

I love Hang Right Politics. I really do. It was an enormous honor when the women who put this wonderful site together invited me to join. I had been reading the fairly new blog almost from the beginning and found it to be the best political and cultural blog on the Web. These writers are the most intelligent, articulate, and dedicated group of people I’ve ever worked with.

This is evidenced by the coverage of the current Israeli/Hezbollah/Hamas War. The writing has just been superb. If you don’t believe me, scroll down and read for yourself. HRP has been dedicated to bringing you the most up-to-date news and information on this ongoing struggle from a center-right point of view. The correct point of view, in my opinion. And although I’ve been very busy with work, clients, and unexpected family visits recently, I haven’t missed a post (thanks to my cell phone).

Hang Right Politics has become for me, even before I joined the team, a MUST READ DAILY stop that simply cannot be missed. Based on the traffic, that seems to be the case for many others as well. So, to my fellow bloggers at HRP, thank you for the incredible work you’ve been doing on this story and so many others. Every time I read this site I feel more honored to be a part of something so special.

Stuff Like This is Why I Left

If case you haven’t heard, the House Democrats have unleashed a new TV ad featuring flag-draped coffins of our U.S. troops in order to try to get people to vote Democrat this year. Yeah, that’s right. Using those who gave their lives in defense of liberty as a political prop against Republicans. They’re also using it as a fundraising tool.

You know, I left that party seven years ago. To this day, they have never given me ONE REASON to regret that decision. The Dems are completely unserious about winning this war. They are callously uncaring about our troops in harm’s way. And they are absolutely undeserving of majority status in Washington, D.C. or anywhere else for that matter.

Update: Human Events online reports that House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi is trying to deny the ad was used to raise funds. But, luckily for us, they posted a copy of the letter from DCC Chairman Rahm “I love the Clintons” Emanuel. Oooo! Busted!
Update II: Rep. John Spratt (D-SC) is asking the Democrat Campaign Committee “to pull the ad immediately.” Looks like the backfire has already begun.

Japan Considering Strike on N. Korea

China's worst nightmare looks like it may be coming true:

TOKYO (AP) - Japan said Monday it was considering whether a pre-emptive
strike on the North's missile bases would violate its constitution, signaling a
hardening stance ahead of a possible U.N. Security Council vote on Tokyo's
proposal for sanctions against the regime.

This is good news for the U.S. and Japan and bad news for North Korea and China. China has been trying to play both ends of this diplomatic game in these multilateral "talks" with Kim Jong (mentally) Il and North Korea. Having Japan get serious about flexing it's power in the region does not bode well for our Chinese "friends".

Alright! Italy has beaten France to win the 2006 World Cup!

Rome erupted in a damburst of joy, firecrackers, flags and tearful embraces as Italians celebrated their country's World Cup triumph after a nail-biting penalty shoot-out against France.
In scenes echoed up and down the country, delirious supporters flocked into Piazza Venezia in the centre of the Italian capital to vent their delight and relief, scenes echoed in piazzas across Italy from Milan in the north to Messina in Sicily.

One can conclude only one thing after watching the World Cup: the people who play this sport are very talented, gifted athletes. This is true in spite of Zinedine Zidane, France's team captain, losing his temper and being sent off the field for a vicious head-butt on Italy's Marco Materrazi.

Though I think it's a great sport, I'm not a huge soccer fan. I'm just happy that France got it's butt kicked.

The North Korean Missile(s) Launch

Well, it looks like North Korea went through with it's threats to launch short-range and long-range missiles toward the United States. They fired six missiles July 4, 2006 (conveniently timed, huh?) and a seventh missile today.

Although the two long-range Taepodong-2 missiles could theoretically have reached Alaska, they never had a real chance of reaching our shores because they fizzled out in the Sea of Japan.

The international community is in an uproar. The U.N. Security Council has convened for an emergency session where Japan proposed a draft resolution, supported by the United States, Britain and France, condemning North Korea.

This is a situation we desperately need to confront sooner rather than later. Liberals won't want to do it, but they never do. That's one of the reasons we didn't put them in power.

Latino Gang Conspired to Kill Blacks

Federal prosecutors allege that members of the Avenues in L.A. plotted to commit violence against African Americans.

There have been major issues between Black and Latino gangs for decades in regard to turf wars. But this is the first case I've heard of where the federal government is seeking to use "a federal hate-crime law based on the amendment to the U.S. Constitution that outlawed slavery, and another law created in the civil rights era, to go after four gang members."

I, for one, applaud this action and would feel the same way if it was a Black gang terrorizing Latinos. Gang violence is an issue that should be dealt with at the federal level because of it's impact on society and connection to the drug trade.

Breaking News: Ken Lay Dead

Enron founder Ken Lay has died in Aspen, CO of a massive heart attack. Lay, 64, was awaiting sentencing after being found guilty of conspiracy and fraud in the Enron trial in May. This is a sad ending to a truly disappointing chapter in American business.

Tony Blair: What It Means to be an American

This is a repost of a May 31 article but it seemed fitting for July 4, 2006. Happy Fourth of July everybody!

British Prime Minister Tony Blair has spoken so well on so many occasions about why we fight the Global War on Terror. But, one of my favorites is his speech to Congress on July 17, 2003. Not only does Blair know why we fight, he also knows why we're proud to be American. Here's an excerpt:

"Tell the world why you're proud of America. Tell them when the Star-Spangled Banner starts, Americans get to their feet, Hispanics, Irish, Italians, Central Europeans, East Europeans, Jews, Muslims, white, Asian, black, those who go back to the early settlers and those whose English is the same as some New York cab driver's I've dealt with ... but whose sons and daughters could run for this Congress. Tell them why Americans, one and all, stand upright and respectful. Not because some state official told them to, but because whatever race, color, class or creed they are, being American means being free. That's why they're proud."

He's right, you know. I've traveled throughout Europe and central Asia. Everywhere I've gone, alone or with friends, the natives have told us they can tell we're Americans. Now, keep in mind, this is often before we've said a word. When I ask how they know they say, "We can tell. Americans just carry themselves differently. You don't even walk like everyone else."

Please read the whole speech. It still rings as true today as it did 3 years ago. And it will fill you with a pride and appreciation for how truly blessed you are to be an American.

The President, the Prime Minister, and the King

Who knew? Apparently Japanese Prime Minister Junichiro Koizumi is a HUGE Elvis fan. President Bush went out of his way to make Koizumi's last trip to the United States as prime minister special by taking him to Graceland.

DVDs of Elvis's movies were available aboard Air Force One, and White House press secretary Tony Snow sported gold-rimmed plastic sunglasses for the flight to Memphis, unarguably Koizumi's highlight of the week.

The Japanese prime minister has been a staunch Bush defender on the world stage and a valuable ally in the GWOT. Koizumi even sent a small contingent of Japanese troops to Iraq after the invasion. It was the first time Japanese troops had operated outside of Japan since World War II. It's evident that the president is very fond of the Japan's leader.

That's one of the things I love about President Bush. He sure knows how to through a party.

Bush Loves Our Armed Forces

WASHINGTON (AP) -- President Bush paid tribute to America's armed forces Saturday, calling Independence Day a time to thank the men and women who defend freedom.

"For more than two centuries, from the camps of Valley Forge to the mountains of Afghanistan, Americans have served and sacrificed for the principles of our founding. Today, a new generation of American patriots is defending our freedom against determined and ruthless enemies."

The president plans to celebrate the 4th of July at a luncheon with military personnel at Fort Bragg, NC. He also urged all Americans to thank those who defend our freedom. "He urged people to help America Supports You, a nationwide program set up by the Defense Department to communicate citizen support to military men and women at home and abroad."

This should make our good friends, Lorie Byrd, Kathy, and Hailey are very happy to have the President in their neck of the woods. Any chance you'll get to see him, ladies?

As the Drudge Report says on its front page, "EVEN 'SUPERMAN' IS NOT AMERICAN ANYMORE? It's a shame Hollywood liberals can't even leave their politics out of the ONE superheroic icon that everyone knows.

According to the article, Superman no longer stands for "truth, justice and the American way" but, as Daily Planet Editor Perry White says in the movie, "truth, justice and all that stuff."
Here's what one of the script writers, Dan Harris had to say about that:

"The world has changed. The world is a different place," Pennsylvania native Harris says. "The truth is he's an alien. He was sent from another planet. He has landed on the planet Earth, and he is here for everybody. He's an international superhero."

Sad, but, I could care less what Harris thinks. I still plan to see the movie. Not because I want to support Hollywood leftists, but because I'm a fan of the Superman story.

So, if you miss the Superman/Clark Kent/Lois Lane triangle and you enjoy fantastic special effects, go see the film. Sometimes we just have to ignore the lefties.

You Have GOT To Be Kidding Me!

The U.S. Supreme Court today "strongly limited the power of the Bush administration to conduct military tribunals for suspected terrorists imprisoned at the U.S. Navy base in Guantanamo Bay, Cuba."

This is just pathetic! Once again, Justice Anthony "moderate" Kennedy sided with the four liberal justices on the High Court. Well, they would have to be high to come up with a ruling like that.

However, this ruling proves why elections matter. We must keep the Congress in conservative hands and we absolutely MUST elect a conservative Republican in the 2008 election. At least two or three of the liberal justices will not make it through another four years on the court. By keeping the White House in Republican hands, we increase our chances of tilting the courts to the right for a generation.

Goodbye, Star and good riddance

Star Jones announced Tuesday that she's leaving the ABC daytime show The View. And, apparently, it wasn't on the best of terms. It appears the long knives are out for the View girls.
Star's out, Rosie O'Donnell, her "archenemy," is in.

It's too bad we can't find a way to fire all of them.

Rowling: 'I may kill off Harry Potter'

"J.K Rowling has given her strongest hint yet that she is planning to kill off the young wizard who has made her a multimillionaire."

Riiight. Unless she's just tired of writing her incredibly lucrative book series, I don't see that happening. But, as she mentions in the story, it would be a good way to ensure the Harry Potter brand dies with her. This would make it difficult for anyone to resurrect him after she's gone.

My personal educated opinion: It's a clver marketing ploy to ensure greater success with the last few books to be released and to increase the sales of those previously released.

"Rush Limbaugh was detained for about 3 1/2 hours at Palm Beach International Airport after authorities said they found a bottle of Viagra in his possession without a prescription."

The Florida authorities are even planning to report this to the state attorney's office. Well, such is the price of Republican celebrity. However, had this been a prominent Democrat or Democrat supporter, you can bet their would've been something stronger than Viagra found in the bags. You can also bet the Pinocchio Press wouldn't care.

Bush Slams New York Times

Although the President didn't mention the NYT by name, he did say this in regard to the outing of a secret government program to track terrorist through financial transactions:

The disclosure of this program is disgraceful...For people to leak that program and for a newspaper to publish it does great harm to the United States of America...The fact that a newspaper disclosed it makes it harder to win this war on terror.

I guess it's safe to say Bush isn't very happy. Vice President Cheney, in a speech at a political fundraiser in Grand Island, Nebraska, added this,

"Some in the press, in particular The New York Times, have made the job of defending against further terrorist attacks more difficult by insisting on publishing detailed information about vital national security programs."

The ~~Slimes~~ Times has done a grave disservice to the American people. It's good to here our political leaders speak out against that.

Life Is Precious

I watched a mother die on Father's Day. It's true. I wasn't sure I would ever write about this, but I've been thinking about it all week.

As I was returning from a trip to see my kids, heading back home to Fort Worth, TX, I saw a horrible accident involving a SUV and an 18 wheeler. It seems a young mother with her baby in the SUV hit the back of the 18 wheeler with such force that it completely crushed the driver's side of her vehicle. There were already people on the scene when I arrived: an off-duty EMT, an off-duty Border Patrol officer and his wife, and several others. 911 had already been called, but we were on a stretch of interstate I-20 that was in the middle of nowhere. The EMT and the BP officer tried frantically to give CPR to the unconscious mother trapped in the SUV. I went to check on the driver of the 18 wheeler and he was physically fine, but seemed in a little bit of shock over what had happened. The others tried to help by directing traffic while waiting for the police to show up. No one saw anything other than the dark cloud of smoke from the collision.

I went back to the SUV to check on the EMT and BP officer as they continued to provide CPR to the young mother. But it was too late for her, there wasn't anything more they could do.
Ironically, it turns out the off-duty BP officer knew her and didn't realize it until after she died. You see, the young mother used to work as a secretary in the same border patrol office as him. He saw her regularly and knew her husband who also works for that office.

When the police got there and took over, I gave a statement and left. I still hadn't heard any news on the baby, but knew the carseat wasn't strapped in the front seat of the SUV where almost all the damage was.

As I drove away, I started thinking of the terrible Father's Day that young woman's husband would have. It also reminded me of the terrible Father's Day the border patrol officer who knew her was having. And it reminded me of this: life is precious.

If you're going through a challenge right now with family, friends, or a significant other, remember... life is precious. If you're sick, depressed, or lonely, remember... life is precious. If you feel unhappy with yourself, physically or mentally, remember... life is precious. Be thankful for the people you have in your life. Tell your spouse, significant other, children, and parents you love them because you never know if it will be the last time you get to say it. Don't waste any time because life is precious.

Well, this is a very interesting survey about Democrat and Republican attitudes toward race and charitable giving in the aftermath of Huuricane Katrina. Here's just a small flavor of the article in, of all places, the Washington Post:

Democrats and independents were far more generous; on average, they gave Katrina victims on average more than $1,500 a month, compared with $1,200 for Republicans, and for 13 months instead of nine.
But for Democrats, race mattered -- and in a disturbing way. Overall, Democrats were willing to give whites about $1,500 more than they chose to give to a black or other minority. (Even with this race penalty, Democrats still were willing to give more to blacks than those principled Republicans.) "Republicans are likely to be more stringent, both in terms of money and time, Iyengar said. "However, their position is 'principled' in the sense that it stems from a strong belief in individualism (as opposed to handouts). Thus their responses to the assistance questions are relatively invariant across the different media conditions. Independents and Democrats, on the other hand, are more likely to be affected by racial cues."

So, for Democrats, race matters in a negative way. I have news for you, that's ALWAYS been the case with Democrats. To prove this point read this, this, Lorie Byrd contributes this, and this from Real Clear Politics is also worth a read.

I love Hugh Hewitt. Really. I believe him to be largely responsible for the “mainstream” success of the blogosphere. He’s the only talk radio show host I know who promoted blogs and their importance from the beginning. He even dedicated an entire book to it, Blog : Understanding the Information Reformation That’s Changing Your World. In short, he’s a true believer which is why I listen to his show and read his blog regularly.

Some People Get the Government They Deserve

The people of New Orleans had a chance to elect someone other than current Mayor Ray “Schoolbus” Nagin a few weeks ago. But, NOOO they decided to re-elect ole “Chocolate City” Nagin to another term.

Now, as crime has risen above last years levels in New Orleans, Nagin asked the state on Monday to send National Guard troops to help patrol the streets of New Orleans. Here's an excerpt from the story:

"In recent weeks, as crime increased and the Police Department struggled to return to its strength from before Hurricane Katrina, many politicians, editorialists and citizens have asked for outside help, a move Mayor Nagin appeared to acknowledge Monday was necessary as he asked for 300 Guard troops."

Let me get this straight. New Orleans has HALF the population it used to have and its police force is back to pre-Katrina levels. With all that, the force can’t stop some out-of-control teenagers with guns? You really need the National Guard to help you control punk kid drug gangs?

Wow! Talk about inept! But then again, they voted for this kind of leadership.

Update: The first contigent National Guard troops arrived in New Orleans on Wednesday. This would be funny if it weren't so sad.

Zarqawi’s Death Reaps Huge Rewards

More bad news for the Liberal Left. It seems the killing of Zarqawi was more helpful than we could have imagined:

Iraq’s national security adviser said Thursday a “huge treasure” of documentsand computer records was seized after the raid on terror leader Abu Musabal-Zarqawi’s hideout, giving the Iraqi government the upper hand in its fightagainst al-Qaida in Iraq.National Security Adviser Mouwafak al-Rubaie alsosaid he believed the security situation in the country would improve enough toallow a large number of U.S.-led forces to leave Iraq by the end of this year,and a majority to depart by the end of next year. “And maybe the last soldierwill leave Iraq by mid-2008,” he said.

Since the al Qaeda in Iraq leader’s death, American and Iraqi forces have carried out 452 raids, killing 104 insurgents. So how will the “cut and run” crowd handle that news?

Keith Olbermann - “Dumber than a suitcase of rocks.”

It appears, if this is true, that MSNBC Countdown host Keith Olbermann IS even dumber than he looks. Apparently the incredibly insufferable Olbermann is having a bit of a personality clash with MSNBC hostess Rita Cosby:

“Rita’s nice,” Olbermann wrote to a fan from his MSNBC E-mail account, “but dumber than a suitcase of rocks.” Yesterday Cosby retorted: “Keith got it wrong. I’m not that nice.”

Now, this story could just be a manufactured event to try to boost both lame shows’ ratings. But, I don’t think anyone would care enough to watch even if the feud is true.

Olbermann is the only person on MSLSD (as Mark Levin calls it) that I cannot stomach for more than 3 minutes. Considering that’s the same network that carries Hardball with Chris Matthews, that’s saying something!

'"Why Do You Dress White?"

When I was 15 years old growing up in San Diego, CA in a racially diverse area, I liked to dress comfortably when "kickin' it" in my neighborhood. So, I often wore blue jeans, a white T-shirt, and my leather jacket.

A Black female friend stopped me when I was walking to 7/11 one day and said, "Hey, Steve. Why do you dress white?" I replied, "I didn't know there was a Black handbook that would tell me how I should dress."

I was reminded of this incident while reading about actor Joseph C. Phillips' new book, He Talk Like a White Boy. I just ordered the book and am looking forward to reading it. Something tells me aspects of the book will seem very familiar. Especially those portions that deal with what it's like to be Black and a Republican.

This article by COgirl was also very timely in reminding me how difficult life can be for Black Republicans and the inherent racism we suffer because we refuse to live on the Liberal/Democrat plantation. It's very well written and contains some apt historical references about Republicans and the 1964 Civil Rights movement. It's definitely worth a read.

First, President Bush makes a surprise trip to Iraq to meet the Iraqi PM and show American troops support after they successfully killed Zarqawi (and many of his supporters) last week. Then they find out that the president's top political strategist, Karl Rove will NOT be indicted by the special prosecutor over the CIA leak case.

Add to that Rep. Patrick Kennedy (D-R.I.) pleading guilty to DUI over his crash into the Capitol fence last month, Hillary Clinton being booed at a liberal convention, and John Kerry flip-flopping on his position about the Iraq war (again) and I'm sure many Libs hope this day was just one long bad dream.

Arab Condolences

It appears there are some moderate Arab voices who aren't all that unhappy with the death of al-Zarqawi. Tariq Alhomayed, Editor-in-Chief of Asharq Al-Awsat, an Arab international daily newspaper, has written an interesting and humorous editorial about those in the Muslim world mourning the dead terrorist's passing. It's definitely worth a read.

The Perils of Racial Hypocrisy

Sometimes, in order to see the truth, one needs only to open ones eyes. This is how I came to the realization that I had to leave the Democrat Party. After reading about their long history of bad behavior toward Blacks, I knew becoming a Republican was the right thing to do.

I was lead to this conclusion, partly, by reading a fascinating book called, It's Okay to Leave the Plantation: The New Underground Railroad by Clarence Mason Weaver. It was given to me by a very sweet couple when I worked on the Bush presidential campaign in 1999 (as a Democrat). The book really opened my eyes to how badly Black people are treated within the Democrat Party and how much worse we're treated when we attempt to leave it. It's been that way from the days of Jim Crow and not much has changed since then.

Betsy has an excellent post detailing the Dems most current hypocrisy on the issue of racial inclusion within the party. She's a sharp, articulate writer and you'll truly enjoy her insights. I recently come to realize that Betsy's Page is simply a must read.

Zarqawi Mourners

I was going to write a bit more extensively about the peculiar reaction liberals are having to the death of terrorist killer Abu Musab al-Zarqawi. But, Republicanpundit, WizBang!, Lorie Byrd, Hugh Hewitt, and many others have done a far better job than I could.

Please read and ask yourself these questions: Why are liberals and the drive-by media so invested in American defeat in Iraq? Why is good news from there always put in the most negative light?

And the Next President of the United States Will Be...

I told a close friend months ago who I thought would win the Republican presidential primary, and ultimately the presidency, in 2008. He thinks I'm crazy and maybe he's right. But let me remind you that I started looking at then Texas Gov. George W. Bush as a great prospect to win before he had even announced and while I was still a Democrat. So, just keep that in mind.

I've been watching this guy for a while now and, after the Tennessee Straw Poll and this Boston Globe story, I'm more convinced than ever that Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney has the best shot to win of any of the current prospects. I know there could still be some surprise entries (like Texas Gov. Rick Perry) and Romney appears to have a couple of negatives going against him, but he's got what it takes to win.

As I've said previously, Ann Coulter is a great writer who sells a lot of books. Her newest book Godless:The Church of Liberalism is sure to do quite well. She has a quick wit and a sharp tongue. But she is totally unserious when it comes to politics. And her recent comments about certain 9/11 widows proves it.

This time I think her propensity for biting humor has gone too far. By suggesting that the Jersey Girls" were "enjoying their husbands deaths" or to say that we don't know if "their husbands weren't about to divorce these harpies? Now that their shelf life is dwindling, they'd better hurry up and appear in Playboy..." These kinds of attacks completely cheapen her central argument: that a few of the 9/11 widows have parlayed their grief into celebrity for the sole purpose of attacking the Bush Administration.

That's a valid argument worth debate. But to turn this into a personal attack towards these women enjoying their husbands' deaths is just sick. Even IF it's true of one or more of the Jersey Girls, it's still sick to say.

For one thing, it's not provable. Instead, it's hateful rhetoric and it tarnishes other valid points Coulter may have. For another, it's (as we used to say in the old neighborhood) LOW. It's just plain low.

Grief does strange things to people. Some people deal with losing a loved one with a great deal of strength and dignity as many of the seldom-heard-from-by-the-MSM 9/11 families (Debra Burlingame comes to mind) have. Others, like Cindy Sheehan and Kristin Brightweiser lash out and look for a central figure to blame. It's okay to be critical of these people but, please keep the blows above the waist.

Coulter has appeared on Hannity and Colmes saying she's willing to debate the Jersey Girls but they have declined. She continues to stick by her vulgar statements as do some talking-head conservatives. Ann, and anyone who defends these statements, is WRONG.

Now, the cynical side of me thinks Ann is doing this for increased media attention to sell more books. Challenging the Jersey Girls to a debate on her statements leads me to that point. If that's not the case, she should decline her debate offer and say she went a little overboard in her statements.

But, as I fear, it is a publicity stunt, then that, too, is just LOW. It would make Miss Coulter an even bigger media whore than she claims the Jersey girls to be.

Conservative author Ann Coulter is a brilliant, articulate, funny, and attractive writer. Her books are interesting, hard-hitting, incredibly funny, and informative. I enjoyed her last book, Treason, a lot. Coulter is known as a "firebrand" conservative. I title I think she enjoys because it helps with book sales.

But, there's no way I can agree with her recent statements about the Jersey Girl 9/11 widows. She should apologize but I know she won't.

Republican Stupidity - Part 3

The most annoying thing Republicans do is exercise their near uncontrollable urge to eat their own publicly. I mean, what's the point of calling President Bush "El Presidente Arbusto" or saying he should be "impeached" because of his view on illegal immigration? We already know the drive-by media template is to find any crack in the Republican coalition and use it as a weapon against the Bush Administration. Why give them ammunition to fire at your own?

This isn't a trait you see in Liberal Democrats. Bill Clinton was, arguably, a scumbag. But, no matter what he did: break the law, sexually harass women, sell nuclear technology to China, sellout the unions, or even lose Democrat control of Congress, they stuck by him. There was usually a desire by the left to put the most positive spin on almost everything he did. That's because the left knows they have enemies and, before George W. Bush, were unwilling to give them any extra ammunition against "their guy."

Perhaps Republicans should learn to exercise a little bit of this trait. I'm not saying blindly follow and defend a member of the party even if that person is corrupt. But, is it really necessary to publicly eviscerate them? Is it productive to say you won't vote Republican this year and encourage others to do the same? No it isn't.

Contrary to SER (scorched-Earth Republicans) belief, the President is NOT the enemy and neither is the Republican-led Senate. On the immigration issue they're both profoundly wrong. But on taxes, social issues, judges, and the GWOT they're with us far more than they aren't. Does anyone really believe a Senate and House controlled by Democrats would be better for the country over the next two years?

For those of you who "want to send a message," do it in the primary rather than the general election. You have a much better chance of getting the kind of candidate you want to represent you. And if the candidate you support loses in the primary but places well, you'll be sure you've gotten your representative's attention. Hey, that's why they call it representative government right?

Republican Stupidity - Part 2

I understand what angers the Scorched earth Republicans about the President's immigration stance. In fact, I actually agree with them about "enforcement first" policies towards illegals. But, there's a difference between supporting tough immigration policy and rejecting Republicans at the polls if things don't quite your way on this issue. Here are the problems with the latter attitude:

First it's incredibly short-sighted. For those who believe that making sure Republicans lose elections will get you what you want, can you name a single time that's actually worked? Were you the same people who supported Ross Perot or didn't vote for George H.W. Bush in 1992 just to teach him a lesson? How did that work out for you? Anyone remember Bill Clinton, Madeline Albright, North Korea nukes, Rwanda, Chinagate, or Supreme Court Justices Breyer and Ruth Bader Ginsburg? Yeah, that cutting off your nose thing really paid HUGE dividends, didn't it?

Second, it's stupid politics. If there's an elected official you have a problem with, seek to defeat that official in the primary (within the party) and replace them with people more to your liking. Hey, if a small Pennsylvania county can do it, so can you. But NEVER, EVER vote for third party candidates or sit on your hands and stay at home. This always has the result of giving the person you least agree with a win thereby ensuring you don't get what you want.

My fellow Republicans, in the words of Bill Clinton, "I feel your pain" at our party right now. But don't allow your emotions to lead you to do something stupid.

Part 3: Why we should act more like Democrats (in certain instances) in order to further our goals. And why it's better to send a message in the primary rather than the general election.

Brian Bilbray Wins in California!

Republican Brian Bilbray defeated Democrat Francine Busby in a special election for the seat imprisoned former Republican Congressman Duke Cunningham. It was a battle between the Busby claim of a Republican "culture of corruption" vs the Bilbray's strong border enforcement, no amnesty for illegals message.

Republican Stupidity - Part 1

As I mentioned yesterday, I used to be a Democrat and a proud one at that. Nevermind the fact that I was often wrong on my views, I was still proud. Heck, I even voted for Clinton TWICE. Yeah, I know but if it helps, I feel really bad about it now. Anyway, as a Democrat, I was a huge supporter of President Clinton. Well, I never gave any money to Democrats or worked in any Dem campaigns but I did drive 2 hours to see Clinton speak in Phoenix once. So, I guess that made me more of a fan than a supporter.

Nonetheless, when the Monica Lewinsky scandal broke, I started to reevaluate my belief system. All the news media wanted to talk about in 1998 was oral sex with an intern (thank God my children were only 4 and 2 years old at the time). But, what I was focused on was that the President of the United States lied. I mean, out and out lied right to our faces! I started thinking, "If he'll outright lie about something stupid like this, what else has he lied about?" Not only that, he broke the law: willfully obstructed justice, lied to a federal court, and tried to cover up evidence.

That's when I realized all the Dems, who were still supporting Clinton, were lying. Even though they knew what he did, they went out and lied for him some more. At that point I realized I couldn't be a part of this group anymore. I did some research on the Republican party and realized it was where I should've been all along. I became an early supporter of Gov. George W. Bush for President in 1999 and I never looked back.

Now, after all the success Republicans have had over the years, the recent immigration debate has reminded me of the ONE thing I both liked and disliked about the Dems: DEMOCRATS STICK TOGETHER. This is especially true when their president is under attack. They may not agree with or like what their president has done, but they don't turn tail and start beating him up because of it. They don't start calling him a traitor or saying that he should be impeached. They don't, purposefully, give their enemies ammunition to defeat him.

This appears not to be a trait Republicans carry. Even when their president is no where near as flawed or corrupt. If some Republicans don't "get their way," all of a sudden their president is "clueless" a "traitor" or is committing "an impeachable offense." And because of this disagreement with the president and certain members of the party, the Scorched Earth faction believes we should show our disapproval by not voting in the upcoming election.

That trait is something I've always disliked about Republicans. Besides being just plain silly this is a short-sighted, suicidal view of politics.

For those of you who don't know, I used to be a Democrat. In fact, I was a registered Dem for more years than I've been a registered Republican.

Tomorrow I'll begin to explain what I still like about the Democrats and loath about Republicans. I've avoided writing much about Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie mainly because I'm jealous of him. Well, that and I don't really care. But, the thing I really find interesting about the recent birth of their baby girl, Shiloh, in the little-before-known African nation of Namibia is the huge increase in tourism that nation will see because of the Brangelina baby saga. Heck, according to that article, they pretty much own the Namibian government as it is.

The power of celebrity never ceases to amaze me. This is especially true when it comes to celebrity children and the media fascination with them. Stars tend to reap huge rewards from this type of free publicity. In fact, Brangelina plan to sell their new-born baby girl's pictures to Getty Images and give the profits to charity. Their little girl's barely one week old and she's already making huge money on her image. Now THAT'S star power!

British Prime Minister Tony Blair has spoken so well on so many occasions about why we fight the Global War on Terror. But, one of my favorites is his speech to Congress on July 17, 2003. Not only does Blair know why we fight, he also knows why we're proud to be American. Here's an excerpt:

"Tell the world why you're proud of America. Tell them when the Star-Spangled Banner starts, Americans get to their feet, Hispanics, Irish, Italians, Central Europeans, East Europeans, Jews, Muslims, white, Asian, black, those who go back to the early settlers and those whose English is the same as some New York cab driver's I've dealt with ... but whose sons and daughters could run for this Congress. Tell them why Americans, one and all, stand upright and respectful. Not because some state official told them to, but because whatever race, color, class or creed they are, being American means being free. That's why they're proud."

He's right, you know. I've traveled throughout Europe and central Asia. Everywhere I've gone, alone or with friends, the natives have told us they can tell we're Americans. Now, keep in mind, this is often before we've said a word. When I ask how they know they say, "We can tell. Americans just carry themselves differently. You don't even walk like everyone else."

Please read the whole speech. It still rings as true today as it did 3 years ago. And it will fill you with a pride and appreciation for how truly blessed you are to be an American.

I Remember...

I remember what it was like being in Air Force Basic Training. We were all scared out of our minds of the instructor and what could happen to us if we screwed up. But, I also remember how good it felt to graduate as a member of the Honor Flight. What an accomplishment! Especially since many of us weren't sure we'd make it through the first week, affectionately known as Hell Week.

I remember what it felt like to be called to duty in Saudi Arabia for the first Gulf War. My family was scared - so was I - but I was more proud of being able to serve my country. As it turned out, we won that war in short order. But even if it had taken longer, I would never have questioned my willingness to serve.

Although, I spent most of Memorial Day working on client files, I periodically stopped to remember those who have gone through the same types of feelings me and those I served with felt so long ago.

Memorial Day is a special occassion. But don't just use that day to remember those who have served and fallen for our nation. Take a few minutes every day. And when you see a soldier, sailor, airmen, or marine, take a moment to walk up and shake their hand and thank them. It would be a fitting tribute for those who have given their lives for the cause of liberty.

Condolences

The Anchoress has suffered a terrible loss. Her brother-in-law finally succumbed to his cancer and died May 27, 2006. It was especially sad for her and her family because she lost her brother in a similar manner nearly two years ago.

Pray for the Anchoress, her family, and especially her sister in their time of mourning. They would greatly appreciate it. Let me take this time to extend my condolences to you and your family, Anchoress.

As I've grown older, I've learned to take solace in the simple knowledge that God never gives us more than we can handle. And, although these are painful times, through Him all things are possible. With His help and guidance your family can and will heal. God bless and take care.

DJ Is Right

DJ Drummond, formerly of Polipundit and now blogger extraordinaire of Stolen Thunder, makes a clarification on his views toward the illegals issue. Here's an excerpt:

I want to be clear, that I do not support the Senate bill. The Senate’s bill seems to me to be no better than a hodge-podge of compromises, the worst kind where no one gets what is really needed, and all sorts of special-interest groups are able to grab from the cookie jar. I greatly prefer the House bill, especially since the House seems to much better understand that the issue must be broken up into its component parts to be properly addressed. (emphasis added)

DJ has been improperly vilified by commenters and some fellow bloggers as being soft on this issue. This is wrong and should be stopped. He is right on the mark, not only about the issue, but how we should frame this debate.

The U.S. Senate passed a comprehensive Amnesty..er, uh "Immigration Reform" Bill today. Riiiight. So comprehensive and so popular with the American people that most of the senators up for reelection in competitive races this year didn't even vote for it. Of course Sen. McCain thinks this is one of the greatest achievements in the history of the Senate. Riiiight.

Here is a breakdown of the votes for this terrible bill. Yep, those guys and gals really have their act together over there, don't they. What will McCain and his buddies think of next? Maybe they can find a way to restrict free speech around election time.

The first quarter Gross Domestic Product grew much faster than last year's fourth quarter rate of 1.7%. Q1 GDP was revised upward to an astonishing 5.3%. That's the fastest growth in 2-1/2 years!

I wouldn't expect to hear about this on the drive-by media channels, though. It's up to President Bush (Geez! Brag a little, will ya) and folks like us spread the word and go over the media's head. I'm doing my part. How about you?

He's already been caught on tape taking a bribe and the feds had a warrant to search his office. So, GET OVER YOURSELVES! There's no "separation of powers" violation here. Besides, you guys are not above the law.

I Graduated from College Today

I'm sorry for the fairly light posts the past few days but I have a good reason. After years of procrastination, I FINALLY graduated from college today!

The commencement was at the Austin, TX campus of Park University (formerly Park College) and it was great! The Outstanding Student, Amy Gross, gave a moving account of her move to America from South Korea, being adopted by American parents, and the life lessons about success and trying your best that they taught her. It was a great speech.

My brother even flew out from San Diego to be a part of the celebration. It was awesome having him there because it was such a full circle moment. You see, I was by his side when he graduated from high school years ago. We both lived in England at the time (I took care of him for a while), so our mother and sister weren't able to make it. Now, because of Mom's cancer treatments and Sis's nursing schedule (she's an RN), they were unable to make this event, though I know they wanted to. So, once again, he and I got to share in a family accomplishment together. It really lifted my spirits.

So, if you would, please forgive me for the light postings. I am a happy man today! I've accomplished something that should've been done years ago and graduated Cum Laude to boot! It feels good to reach a goal after having worked so hard for it.

John McCain Is NOT the Answer

Senator John McCain should never be allowed to become President. He's made one bad decision after another and doesn't seem to be on a path to change.

First there was Campaign Finance Reform, which put certain restrictions on political speech 30 days before an election. Then, there was the "Gang of 14" deal he struck, behind Majority Leader Bill Frist back, that allowed Democrats to keep the use of filibusters for judicial nominees on the table. Even though the practice was about to be ended by the full Senate.

What's his latest stupid pet trick? He actually voted against an amendment to the Senate immigration bill that would keep illegals from being eligible for Social Security benefits accrued while illegal. The vote was 50-49.

In the Republican primary of 2008, no matter what the question is, McCain IS NOT the answer.

John McCain, Sunday on Fox News Sunday, was asked by host Chris Wallace if he would vote for the Federal Marriage Amendment coming up for a vote in the Senate. His answer: "I will vote against it because I believe very strongly that in a — first of all, on the sanctity of union between man and woman, but I also believe that the states should make these decisions."

This is a complete an utter cop-out. If Sen. McCain votes for the amendment, the states WOULD be allowed to decide. A constitutional amendment cannot become law unless two-thirds of the states vote for it.

So, McCain either doesn't know the law or is trying to have it both ways. Which do you think it is?

The Guest Blogging Experiment

I've decided to invite guest bloggers posts on this site. I was inspired to do so by blogs like Polipundit, Hugh Hewitt, and RedState.com which have done very well in the group/guest blog arena.

The first two guest bloggers to accept my invitation are Gabe Gaska and Jennifer Rose. Gabe is a smart, articulate, and successful young man from Tucson, AZ. He's also a good personal friend. You may be surprised by some of his views. He's not a Republican, Democrat, or Libertarian and that's one of the reasons I wanted him to post here. He comes at issues with a different perspective.

Jennifer is a lovely, intelligent, professional young woman from Fort Worth, TX. She has a Bachelors degree in Criminal Justice with a minor in Psychology. The things she'll discuss will most likely involve life issues: things that happen to us regularly, whether we want them to or not.

They aren't the only two people I've asked to post to this site. I'm still waiting for one or two more replies. But, I'm hopeful that you'll enjoy reading there future writings as much as I've enjoyed reading the comments and listening to their opinions. When more bloggers are added I'll keep you informed.

The Wonderful Guests at Club Gitmo

This from FoxNews: "Prisoners with makeshift weapons battled guards trying to save a detainee pretending to commit suicide at the U.S. prison in Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, in what military officials said Friday was a coordinated attack that left six prisoners injured."

As for the six injured prisoners/terrorists, all I can say is it's too bad we didn't do more than just "injure" them.

But, maybe the U.N. knows best after all. These guys are harmless and should be let go. Right? What say you?

Harry Reid Should Be Ashamed of Himself

Nevada Senator Harry Reid is an absolute disgrace. I didn't think it was possible, but he's actually a worse Senate minority leader than Tom Daschle was. Believe me, that's saying something.

The Washington Times reports that he "called a proposal to make English the official language 'racist' on the Senate floor yesterday. " Racist, huh? Wanting people who live in this country to recognize the importance of speaking American English is racist? The man has NO SHAME.

The people of Nevada had an opportunity to remove this clown from office in 2004 and failed to do so. Fortunately, because of his higher profile, Reid hasn't done himself any favors in his state by acting like a leftist. Hopefully, Nevadans will be much more selective about their Senate representation in 2010.

"Will and Grace" Ends Tonight

The hit sitcom about, as CNN puts it, "gay man named Will and a straight woman named Grace" ends its eight-year run tonight on NBC. I've never been a big fan of the show, but it is (unlike Ellen's show once she came out) funny. Will, Grace, Jack, and Karen just had a chemistry between them that made the show work without being overly offensive.

I haven't watched this show for sometime, but I think I'll make it a point to check it out tonight.

Finally, Some Progress

Late yesterday, the U.S. Senate voted on two important amendments. On one, they COMPLETELY got it wrong. On the other, they finally got it right.

Georgia Sen. Johnny Isakson introduced an amendment to the immigration bill that would delay the legalization and guest worker provisions until the border had been secured. It was defeated 55-40 with 18 Republicans voting with the Democrats. Very stupid move.

Later, Alabama Sen. Jeff Sessions introduced an amendment to erect 370 miles of triple-layer fencing and 500 miles of vehicles barriers along the border. It PASSED 83-16. All 16 "no" votes were Democrats. Texas Sen. John Cornyn also successfully introduced and amendment that, in the words of Polipundit, "at least make employers certify that they had tried to fill one of these jobs with a lazy American before hiring a 'guest' worker." The vote was 50-48.

Thank God there are still some conservatives left in the Senate. With any luck, this so-called immigration reform bill could end up being a net plus when all is said and done.

To All Conservatives - Let's Chill

The illegal immigration issue is causing some rifts with the conservative moment that I find troubling and it time for us to remember we're ALL on the same team. From the "Throw the bums out" to the "President Bush knows what he's doing" factions, we all want to stem the tide of illegals flooding our borders. So, in the immortal words of the R&B singer, Guy, "Let's chill, let's settle down."

This issue is causing unnecessary animosity in the conservative moment. It's effect on the blogosphere has been profound. Polipundit.com, was one of my favorite blogs largely because of the format of group bloggers with a variety of writing styles and perspectives on issues. They didn't always agree with each other on specific subjects. In fact, they often covered different issues from each other. That made for interesting reading. But they all agreed that we were on the same team trying to support conservative policies and ideals that would help the country. At least they used to.

Sadly this issue, illegal immigration and how best to handle it, caused such a divergence on viewpoints that it split up the group. Several of the guest bloggers now operate their own separate websites. Lorie Byrd, the darling of the group and DJ Drummond, the intellectual both run very good, well written blogs of there own now. Hopefully, Jayson Javitz and Alexander K. McClure will either join the ladies or start their own as well.

Whatever happens, the ONE thing we all need to remember is that we all want a significant decrease/cessation of illegals entering this country. We may not all agree 100% on methods of how to get there from here. We may not agree on the general tone of the debate. But, I hope we can agree that illegal immigration needs to be dealt with effectively AND that the only people willing to do so are CONSERVATIVES. Liberals offer absolutely NO logical solutions to the problem. In fact, their quite content to sit back and let us argue amongst ourselves, hoping to extract some political gain from it.

With that in mind, let's tone down the "Bush is a liar," diatribe on one side and the "anti-Mexican," rhetoric on the other and get this job done - together.

An Open Letter to Polipundit

Poli -

I think I understand what happened between you, AKM, Jayson, DJ, and Lorie on the immigration issue.

Like everyone else who reads your blog, I know how strongly you feel about this issue. You're a LEGAL immigrant and patriot who loves this country. I can appreciate your resolve and passion. But, this isn't the first time your guest bloggers have disagreed with you (remember Harriet Miers?) on a particular subject. So, I don't think it was there disagreement that caused a problem per se.

I think it was the WAY in which the disagreements were publicly aired. One guest blogger suggested you were being consumed by this issue and your take on it. By the way, I agree with that person. Another questioned your near hysterical tone (again, I concur). Still another blogger suggested that if anyone believed the President's immigration plan was amnesty "then you are either a moron or a liar." Not quite what I would've said, but this issue does evoke emotion.

Although I defend these bloggers' right to speak their minds, the overly negative tone of your disagreements in such a public manner (this includes you, Poli) was not helpful. And your personal email to your group bloggers allegedly saying, "From now on, every blogger at PoliPundit.com will either agree with me completely on the immigration issue, or not blog at PoliPundit.com" was unnecessary, immature, and heavy-handed.

Poli, before this breakup, I loved your site. Really. It was the FIRST blog I went to every morning to get news, information, and opinion. It worked so well because the guest bloggers offered different perspectives (and writing styles) on a variety of issues. They, and you, are talented, intelligent writers. This made your blog an interesting and entertaining read.

What's happening now is very sad to me. Fix this problem, Poli. Don't let pride destroy what it took you years to build.

It also wouldn't hurt (to further your point) to drop the "El Presidente Arbusto" and the "Bush is a liar" quips as well. Leave that kind of stuff to the Comments section of your blog. It's beneath you.

Lorie Byrd Has Left Polipundit.com

Lorie Byrd, a beautiful and eloquent guest blogger for Polipundit.com, has left that site over a dispute she and other guest bloggers were having with the site's editor, Polipundit, on the issue of illegal immigration.

This is a sad spectacle because Polipundit.com, more than any other blog (and there are many), is the site I visited regularly. It's especially sad because it was over a single issue: Immigration.

I respect and understand Polipundit's tough-love view on the issue. And, although his constant refrains of the president as "El Presidente Arbusto" became a bit tiresome, he (as a LEGAL immigrant) has a right to his opinions and editorial control of his website. Although, posters to the site can be disrespectful of his views at times, none of the guest bloggers should hold this type of contempt toward the editor. And, for the most part, none did.

Immigration is an issue that invokes deep emotion on both sides. But, guest bloggers to Polipundit and other blogs opinions should be just as respected as the editors views. And the editorial page, it it seeks to continue being successful, should refrain from school yard antics.

The Speech

President Bush's speech on immigration left me a bit luke warm. I liked the talk about "high-tech fences and vehicle barriers" in conjunction with the use of the National Guard to provide logistical support to the Border Patrol. It's not practical or necessary to have a 2,000 mile fence along the border. A combination of actual fencing and barriers in some areas, virtual fencing and patrols in others would be the best option.

But the second half of the speech I could have done without. All the happy peace and love "let's all get along" crap about hard working illegals who've been here a long time and deserve a shot at citizenship left me a bit cold.

It's not that I completely disagree that people who've been here for a while need to be dealt with. They do. But, can't we at least try the enforcement/crackdown on employers part FIRST?

I think the President (and the Senate) would be far better off if they stopped insisting on a "comprehensive solution" and spoke more about enforcement first, followed by a regularization process. But, ENFORCEMENT FIRST is the key. That's what most people want. The sooner President Bush and Congress figure this out, the better off their future electoral prospects will be.

Gore: Tide turning on global warming

Just imagine, the man with these views was almost President. Scary isn't it?

My personal take is that I DO NOT BELIEVE IN GLOBAL WARMING! At least not to the extent that the United States in almost completely responsible for it. Modern science will tell you that's just patently ridiculous. So will common sense.
